Topsoil is the growing layer: screened, dark and loose, for finishing a regraded yard, building up beds, or fixing the scars construction leaves. Fill dirt is structure: cheaper, denser material for raising grade, packing holes and building pads — it goes under things, not around plants. Mulch is the cover: beds, trails and cleared ground, holding moisture and keeping the weeds honest.
Ordering the wrong one is the most common (and most avoidable) money-waster in yard work — fill where topsoil should go grows nothing, and topsoil used as fill settles. Tell us what the ground is supposed to do when you call, and we will put the right material on the truck.
Dirt math is simple and everyone hates doing it: length times width times depth, divided into cubic yards. An inch or two of topsoil across an average suburban yard is a load or three; a serious regrade or a new-build finish can run well past that. Give us the rough dimensions and what you are fixing, and we will size the order honestly — including telling you when you need less than you think.
Delivery is by the truckload, and the trucks are real dump trucks, not a trailer behind a pickup. If access is tight — gates, septic fields, soft ground — say so when you order and we will plan where the load lands before the truck is in your driveway.
