Mid South Mulch runs mulch delivery out of our yard at 430 Lewisburg Pike in Franklin, TN. Loads go out on our own trucks, or we load your pickup or trailer at the yard. Our mulch installation crew also does the labor: bed cleanout, a fresh cut edge, then an even layer of mulch. This is landscape mulch for beds, borders, tree rings and natural areas around the house.
The company started in 1996 as a landscaper, and mulch has been in our name ever since. We still install and maintain landscapes, so bed prep and spreading mulch is ordinary crew work. A delivery is a dump truck load of mulch from our yard on Lewisburg Pike in Franklin. We run our own trucks, so the load and the driver both come from us. Tell us the drop spot when you call, and the driver gets as close as the ground allows. If you would rather haul it yourself, we load pickups and trailers at the yard.
UT Extension lists the common landscape mulches as shredded hardwood bark, pine bark nuggets and wood chips. Stock changes week to week, so call (615) 599-7550 and ask what is in the yard. The same yard loads topsoil and fill dirt, and the trucks run from there to Franklin beds and to mulch delivery in Brentwood.
Too much mulch smothers the roots it was meant to protect. UT Extension says more than 4 inches restricts soil oxygen exchange with the roots. Roots then grow up into the mulch instead of out into the soil. The same publication ties heavy mulch to waterlogged root zones and to drought stress in dry spells.
Piling mulch in a cone against the trunk is what UT Extension calls volcano mulching. That cone traps moisture, and the cracked bark gives insects and fungus a way in. We keep the layer at 2 to 4 inches and pull it back so the trunk base stays exposed. Aged material matters too: fresh wood waste pulls nitrogen from the soil, and sour mulch can harm young plants.
The crew starts by clearing the bed and cutting a fresh edge along the border. Old mulch that has matted down gets broken up so water can move through it. Then the new layer goes on by wheelbarrow and rake, kept even across the bed. Around trees we run a ring 4 to 6 feet across, which UT Extension gives as the minimum.
A wider ring beats a narrow one, because it keeps turf from competing with tree roots. Williamson County soil runs clay heavy and shallow to rock in places, so roots sit near the surface. We do this bed work on homes and on commercial grounds, including mulching services in Spring Hill. Beds on regular landscape maintenance hold their shape longer between mulch loads.
Published 2026 ranges put bulk mulch material at $25 to $100 per cubic yard. Published Franklin-area retail prices run from the mid-$20s to low-$30s per cubic yard for dyed mulch. Those are market ranges from published guides, and we price a load on yardage and material. The City of Franklin sells compost, not mulch, by the yard at its Incinerator Road facility.
Guides put professional spreading at $25 to $50 per cubic yard of mulch. One 2026 range puts fully installed mulch at $77 to $94 per yard.
